Josep Maria Sostres, Torredembarra

At the Sea-Side

“When I was down beside the sea
A wooden spade they gave to me
To dig the sandy shore.

My holes were empty like a cup.
In every hole the sea came up,
Till it could come no more.”

by Robert Louis Stevenson

Josep Maria Sostres is a Catalan architect. He was born in 1915, and took part in the ‘R groupe’ in 1952. He did a lot of his projects near the sea, in the catalan coast. One of them is four holiday appartments, situated in Torredembarra. The relationship between the appartments and the sea was direct. Sostres investigated on the new housing needs and how to make clusters of houses. The summer residences were eventually to 4 members of the same family. The residences were known as: ‘Villas S’aragó, Antibes, Palm beach and Copacabana’.
